With the booming market of the last few years, an unprecedented number of people have been obtaining real estate licenses. Not long ago, it was said there were so many new licensees that if you were speaking to a randomly selected agent, the odds were better than one in three they would have less than a year's experience. To aggravate matters, many companies foist these novices on the public and provide training only after they demonstrate a skill in sales.
And into this situation come the supposed "consumer-friendly" firms, many of which supply next to no real expertise and guidance at all. Penny wise, dollar foolish.
Sadly, when a consumer is done a disservice by an uninformed agent, it reflects upon all of us. Including the professional who sees real estate as a serious business requiring high standards of service, fidelity and ongoing knowledge.
In response to this problem, Mr. Fillius authored and teaches a Washington State-approved two-part continuing education course entitled Tools of the Trade aimed at increasing professionalism and knowledge in the industry---one classroom at a time.
